Escuela Esperanza
Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 11:11AM Escuela esperanza, the Bible Kinder we started 7 years ago, is still going strong and has become a very special program.
.
When we started the program, our intent was to give the mothers in the colonia a break by taking care of their kids for two hours. They would receive a hot meal, Bible lesson, sing songs, do crafts, etc. It worked!
Today, each morning we have a class of mainly 4-5 year old boys and girls who get much more along with their hot meal and a Bible story. They are learning to use their hands….their fine motor skills are not developed because they don’t grow up with all the toys and gadgets our kids play with in the states. They are learning to write and are going to be more prepared for school than any children in the colonias we serve.

It is amazing to see how they are the same as children all over the world….give them an opportunity and direction and they rise to the challenge.
In the class are two brothers, twins, whose motor skills were damaged in birth. Their mother tried to get them into the public kindergarten, but no school would take them because of their disabilities. We could not say “no”! They have been in our care for almost a year now and they have blossomed! They used to hit and yell and could not feed themselves, but now you barely notice they are there. They have learned to do everything the other kids do with huge smiles on their faces!
This program has never really be funded sufficiently. We have a few supporters who faithfully send help specifically for this program, but we need your to help, too. We are buying work books, mobiles, play dough, and many other things to help these little ones grow….and they love it!! If you can help with this project, please let us know.
Many or you are looking for a place to give at the end of the year and Escuela Esperanza is the perfect place. One hundred children are mentored and loved by the teachers and staff of this great program. We are seeing such a huge difference in these children. A generation is being changed and prepared for the Kingdom and for Honduras.
